Celebrating Community and Creativity: Our First School Partnership with Smalley Elementary
Smalley Elementary School, February 21st
A New Chapter for NHS New Britain’s Community Engagement! We recently marked an exciting milestone for NHS New Britain’s Community Building and Engagement team as we launched our new initiative to be more active in our local community through partnerships like this with Smalley Elementary School.

Andréa, Marelyne, and Maria, and Krystyna collaborated with the school to bring a fun, educational, and meaningful project to their second-grade students: an essay and art contest centered around the theme “What Home Means to Me.”
Through their writing and artwork, the students shared heartfelt stories about their families, hobbies, pets, daily routines, and the special moments that bring them comfort and joy at home. Choosing winners was no easy task, but after much deliberation, our team selected five runner-ups and five grand prize winners.
Each of the 10 winning students proudly presented their essays in front of a crowd of fellow students, teachers, and parents—a wonderful opportunity to build confidence and celebrate their creativity.
Following the event, we had the chance to connect with parents and faculty, sharing more about NHS New Britain’s mission and exploring ways we can further support the community.
We’re excited to continue fostering stronger connections through meaningful community projects like this and are so thankful to the Smalley Elementary School, Principal Andrea Foligno, Assistant Principal Jennifer Wright, faculty, and the students for participating.
