Celebrating the Grand Opening of Gallery 66 & Visitor Center

NHS New Britain Staff with Community and City officials.

On March 4th, we proudly celebrated the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Gallery 66 & Visitor Center in downtown New Britain, Connecticut! The event brought together community leaders, artists, and local supporters, including New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart, who spoke about the importance of having dedicated spaces for the arts in the heart of our city.

We also heard from Professor Craig Fredrick who spoke on some of the history of the gallery. He shared that over the years, multiple generations of artists have lived, worked, and built careers through the space. First as an art co-op space, and now as one of the few places in Connecticut that holds an opportunity for young artists to make a name for themselves through juried exhibitions.

The gallery has fostered community engagement, with artists getting married there, having children, and launching professional art careers.

Neighborhood Housing Services Greater New Britain Inc. (NHS New Britain) is thrilled to take on this new project, not only as a way to support the community but also to uplift local artists and foster creativity and cultural engagement in downtown New Britain and beyond.

We’re excited to kick things off with the current exhibition, "Bridges," a juried show featuring students and alumni from Central Connecticut State University (CCSU)—a testament to our strong partnership with the university and our shared commitment to the arts.

Looking ahead, we plan to introduce new programs for youth and seniors (55+) and continue building meaningful community engagement initiatives. This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see how Gallery 66 becomes a vibrant cultural hub for New Britain and the entire Connecticut arts scene!

Stay tuned for more updates on upcoming events, programs, and exhibitions!

A special thank you to all who attended, and especially to Chef Rah of Bigalow Catering for the delicious food !– The NHS New Britain & Gallery 66 Team
