Building Communities Together: Ribbon Cutting at New Homes on Gridley Street, Bristol

On September 25th, Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater New Britain, in partnership with Greater Bristol Homes, celebrated the completion of two brand new homes at 63 and 147 Gridley Street in Bristol.

The homes are both beautiful, newly built additions to the established West End neighborhood of Bristol.  One home is an owner-occupied duplex with two 3-bedroom, 1.5-bath units offering the same layout on two levels and a total of about 2,700 square feet of living space. But even more exciting is that the owner will reside in one units and rent the other unit.  It’s a great opportunity for a homeowners to live and earn rental income. The second home is 3 bedroom, 2 ½ bath single-family home.  Both homes are being sold below market value at prices that are affordable to lower income households.

The Power of Community Revitalization

About 40 guests listened to speakers who included the Mayor of Bristol, Jeff Caggiano, the Connecticut Commissioner of Housing, Seila Mosquera-Bruno, Marcus Smith, Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA) Director of Outreach, and T.J. Magnoli, Eversource Community Relations.

Bristol’s Mayor, Jeff Caggiano, shared some inspiring words, stating "This is the type of revitalization that we need in the West End.”

We couldn’t agree more! NHS New Britain CEO, Chris Sanders, underscored the commitment of NHS New Britain and Greater Bristol Homes to continue its efforts to bring needed housing to the West End neighborhood and to Bristol, in general.

Connecticut Housing Commissioner, Seila Mosquera-Bruno, highlighted the importance of homeownership, saying, “Homeownership is so important in neighborhoods.”

The commissioner went on to mention the Time to Own program which offers $25,000 in forgivable down payment assistance to eligible first-time homebuyers. This program is such an amazing resource for families looking to buy their first home. The Commissioner said, “It’s a small program, but it really makes a difference with projects like this.”

Chris Sanders thanked the many supporters of Greater Bristol Homes and the project, many of whom were present at the event.  Mr. Sanders noted, ”The development of this home would not have been possible without the support of CHFA’s Housing Tax Credit Contribution program and Eversource who provided $762,000 in funding toward the project.”

We thank our many supporters of this project such as…
